Lin Yanzhi was born in 1948. He graduated from Tsinghua University in 1984, majoring in theoretical physics. He obtained his PhD in economics from Wuhan University and PhD in Law from Tsinghua University. He was associate professor and vice secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Committee of Peking University during 1989-1992; a full-time member, a member of the Leading Party Members’ Group and secretary of the CPC Organizations Committee of the State Commission of Education during 1992-1994; a vice minister-level member of the Leading Party Members’ Group of the State Commission of Education and secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group and deputy director of the State Language Working Committee during 1994-1995; a member of the Standing Committee of the Henan Provincial CPC Committee, director of the Publicity Department of Henan Provincial CPC Committee, chairman of Henan Association of Social Science Societies, and a deputy of the 15th CPC National Congress during 1995-2000; vice secretary of the Jilin Provincial CPC Committee during 2000-2007; and vice secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group and executive vice chairman of Jilin Provincial People’s Political Consultative Conference during 2007-February 2012. He is now a distinguished visiting professor of Tsinghua University and visiting professor of Peking University, Renmin University of China and Jilin University.
