A Chronicle of Events of the CSE (2015)
On January 16 and 17, the CSE held the Second Working Conference on National Safety Education Pilot Zone in Beijing, and released the Data Analysis Report of the 2014 National Summer Vacation Safety Questionnaire. Over 100 people attended the conference, including leaders from 22 safety education pilot zones and personnel in charge of safety education in education departments of different provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities. In the past two years, the CSE has built 22 pilot zones in eastern, central, and western China, covering 22,670 schools. Besides, 13.5 million students and 336,000 teachers have been engaged in safety education and relevant activities on the safety education information platform in schools within the pilot zones.
On January 17 and 18, the Promotion and Training Activity of 2014 National Best Practice Awards in Basic Education, sponsored by the CSE, was launched at Beijing National Day School.
On January 20, the Eighth Education Salon, jointly sponsored by the CSE and Guangming Daily, was held in Beijing. The theme of the salon is “Classifying Classes—Senior High School Reform in accordance with the changes of College Entrance Examination.”
On January 25, the Mathematics Teaching in Primary School Professional Commission of the CSE held the Seventh Enlarged Meeting of Board of Directors &Eighth Inaugural Meeting of Board of Directors in Beijing.
On January 28, the agreement-signing ceremony of comprehensive education reform in Dongcheng District, under the support of the CSE, National Center for the Performing Arts, University of International Business and Economics, Beijing University of Technology, China National Theater for Children, and Capital University of Physical Education and Sports, was held at the Dongcheng Educational Research Institute. The aim is to fully support the education reform of Dongcheng District with professional capability, and provide academic and technical resources.
On January 28, supported by the Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, sponsored by Li KaShing Foundation, hosted by Shantou University, and co-organized by CSE, the Third Project Prometheus was launched at Shantou University. Focusing on the theme of “Life Science and Beyond,” 82 students selected from tens of thousands of candidates were engaged in a three-day academic exchange activity with seven renowned scientists in the fields of medical science, biology, and biomedical engineering from top universities of US, UK, Germany, and Israel.
On January 31, the Forum on “Modern School System Construction& Opening Ceremony of Experimental Base for Educator Development” was held at the Qingdao Development Zone Experimental Junior Middle School. With the theme of “Practical Exploration into Modern School System Construction,” the forum was jointly sponsored by the Editorial Department of the Future Educationalists Magazine of the CSE and the Education & Sports Bureau of Huangdao District, Qingdao, and organized by the Qingdao Development Zone Experimental Junior Middle School.
On March 17, the Family Education Professional Commission of the CSE launched the “Special Training Program of Family-School”, tailored developed for Shijia Primary School, was held from March 17 to the end of December, 2015 at Shijia Primary School. The program provided face-to-face instructions and practical training. Over 400 homeroom teachers and disciplinary teachers of Shijia Primary School participated in the program.
On March 18, the Ninth Education Salon, jointly sponsored by the CSE and Guangming Daily, was held in Beijing. The theme of the salon is “How Can Education at Home and Abroad Draw on Each Other’s Strength.”
On March 29, the 2015 Annual Working Conference of the CSE & Fourth Plenary Session of the Seventh Board of Directors was held at Beijing Jingmin Hotel. The conference reviewed the work in 2014 and deployed the work in 2015. Liu Limin, Vice Minister and National Inspector-General of the Ministry of Education, attended the conference and delivered a speech.
On the afternoon of April 10, the agreement-signing ceremony of cooperation projects between the CSE and American Montessori Society (AMS) was held in Beijing. With the purpose of developing standardized Montessori qualification certification standards and systems with Chinese characteristics for teachers, the two parties hope to build high quality teacher training systems and projects from a higher starting point.
On the afternoon of April 19, the News Conference of 2015 International Youth Volunteer Activity of the CSE was held at Beijing Joy City Hotel.
On April 20 and 21, the International Symposium on Early Childhood Education, the “Past, Now and Future” & Founding Congress for Pre-School Education Professional Commission of the CSE was held in Shanghai. The symposium was jointly sponsored by the CSE and East China Normal University. Approximately 800 people, including experts in pedagogy and psychology from different countries and domestic researchers of early childhood education, attended the symposium. Zhu Jiaxiong, Professor of East China Normal University and Director of Pacific Early Childhood Education Research Association (China), was appointed as Chairperson of the First Board of Directors of Pre-School Education Professional Commission.
On April 24 and 25, the On-site Meeting of Civic Education was held in Changsha, Hunan Province. The meeting was sponsored by CSE, contracted to the People’s Government of Kaifu District in Changsha, and co-organized by Hunan Society of Education and Changsha Bureau of Education.
From April 26 to 28, the launching ceremony of “The Class of China & Changshu Classroom Teaching Display and Observation” was held in Changshu, Jiangsu Province. The activity was sponsored by the CSE, and organized by School Culture Research Branch of the CSE and Shanghai Overseas Education School.
On May 9 and 10, the Promotion and Training Activity of National Best Practice Awards in Basic Education, sponsored by the CSE, was held at Beijing National Day School.
On May 9 and 10, the launching ceremony of the “Activity of China Education Reform: Long-term Services for the CSE Members” and the first thematic seminar were sponsored by the CSE at the Experimental Junior Middle School of Qingdao Development Zone.
On May 15, the Sixth Meeting of Board of Directors of Juvenile Out-of-School Education Sub-commission of the CSE was held in Beijing.
On May 16, the Inaugural Meeting of Research Center of Teenager Innovative Thinking Education of the CSE & Seminar on Youth Maker Development Plan was held in Beijing.
On May 18 and 19, the Conference on Junior High School Quality Development, sponsored by the Junior High School Education Professional Commission of the CSE and organized by Beijing 101 Middle School, was held in Beijing.
On the afternoon of May 20, the Tenth Education Salon, jointly sponsored by the CSE and Guangming Daily, was held in Beijing. The theme of the salon is “Do You Truly Understand Family Education.”
On May 22 and 23, the Gaomi Education Bureau of Shandong Province held the Mid-term Research Report Meeting of the Education Reform in the Pilot Zone & Concluding Meeting of the 12 th Five-Year Plan Key Research Projects of the the CSE.
On May 25 and 26, the Forum on Commemoration of the 30th Promulgation Anniversary of Decision of the Central Committee of the CPC on Education System Reform, jointly sponsored by the CSE, China Association of Higher Education, and East China Normal University, was held in Shanghai. The theme of the forum is “Comprehensively Deepening the Educational System Reform for Better Education.”
On June 1, the first video conference between the CSE and AMS on developing China’s Montessori education standards was held in Beijing.
From June 12 to 14, the 2015 China Annual Conference of Education Economics & Election of Board of Directors was held at Beijing Jingmin Hotel. The conference was jointly sponsored by the Economics of Education Sub-commission of the CSE and Capital Institute for Economics of Education of Beijing Normal University.
On June 23, the 11th Education Salon, jointly sponsored by the CSE and Guangming Daily, was held in Beijing. The theme of the salon is “Supporting Rural Teachers and Creating a Robust Pivot for Education.”
On the afternoon of July 9, Zhong Binglin, President of THE CSE, met with Luo Jialiang, the Singapore’s ambassador to China, and his entourage. The two parties exchanged opinions on issues such as strengthening cooperation in education.
On July 13, the Smart Lady ·Smart Life—Second Session (2015) of Beijing International Youth Action was launched in Women and Children Activity Center of Haidian District, Beijing. The activity was sponsored by the CSE, Beijing Women’s Federation, and Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, and jointly organized by Beijing Women’s International Exchange Center, Women’s Federation of Haidian District, Women’s Federation of Miyun County, and Women’s Federation of Xicheng District.
On July 18 and 19, the 2015 Annual Education Evaluation Conference of the CSE was held at Beijing No.35 High School. With the theme of “Reform of College Entrance Examination and Comprehensive Evaluation of Primary and Middle School Education Quality,” the conference focused on the following key issues, including the latest theories and achievements of reform promotion, and methods to address the potential and existing problems in the reform under the background of promoting the separation of education management, operation, and evaluation.
On August 15, the Legacy of Brush and Ink·National Training Project of Primary and Middle School Calligraphy Teachers was launched in Beijing. The activity was jointly initiated by the Ministry of Education and China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and jointly organized by the CSE, China Painting Calligraphy Education Association, and China Calligraphers Association. Over 200 calligraphy teachers and researchers from north and northeast China participated in the launching ceremony.
From August 21 to 23, the 2015 Training Program of Teachers’ Professional Ethics in the Tibet Autonomous Region, sponsored by the CSE, was held in Lhasa. A total of 120 primary and middle school teachers from Lhasa, Shannan, Shigatse, Nyingchi,and Nagqu participated in the three-day training program.
On September 23, the 12th Education Salon, jointly sponsored by the CSE and Guangming Daily, was held in Beijing. The theme of the salon is “How to Accredit Good Teachers with Professional Titles.”
On October 12 and 13, the Fourth National Conference of Headmasters of Primary School, jointly sponsored by the CSE, the Education Department of Hunan Province, and the People’s Government of Changsha City, was held in Changsha, Hunan Province. The theme of the conference is: For the Happy and Healthy Growth of Every Child—Focusing on Management Innovation.
From October 12 to 16, the 2015 China Conference on Music Education was held in Shanghai. With the theme of “Heritage· Development· Innovation,” the conference was sponsored by the CSE, contracted to the Music Education Branch of the CSE, Committee of Music China, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and Teaching Research Office of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, co-organized by China Music Education, and supported by NAMM and Casio China.
From October 23 to 25, the Education Administration Professional Commission of the CSE held the Sixth Academic Conference & Conference of Readjusting Board of Directors in Beijing.
From October 27 to 30, the 2015 Classroom Teaching Display and Observation (Training) Activity of the CSE & 12th Training and Observation Activity of Primary School Mathematics Teaching Reform was held in Tunxi District, Huangshan City, Anhui Province.
On October 28, the First National Conference on Educator Development League, jointly sponsored by the Future Educationalists Magazine, Chongqing Education Institute, Chongqing Educational Evaluation Institute, and Chongqing JLP Municipal Education Commission, was launched in Chongqing. The theme of the conference is “Development of Educators in the Cloud Era.”
From October 31 to November 1, the Second Doctor Forum on National Education Policy and Cutting-edge Law Research &Ninth Annual Academic Conference of Education Policy and Law Research Branch of THE CSE was held at Jingshi Hotel of Beijing Normal University.
From October 31 to November 2, the Fourth “Modern School League” Forum of the CSE was held at Tianjin Normal University. With the theme of “Course Construction and Leadership in the Comprehensive Education Reform,” the forum was sponsored by the CSE and Tianjin Municipal Education Commission, and organized by the Education Administration Branch of the CSE, Tianjin Education Academic Society, Tianjin Education Bureau of Hexi District, and Tianjin High School Affiliated with Beijing Normal University.
On November 7 and 8, the International Symposium on “Montessori Education in China: Scientization, Localization and Standardization,” sponsored by the CSE, was held in Qingdao.
On the symposium, the Chinese Certification Standards for Montessori Early Childhood Education Institutions was released, and Yang Nianlu, Secretary-General of the CSE, introduced the structure and contents, instructions for using, and application procedures of the standards in detail.
On November 13, Yang Nianlu (Secretary-General of the CSE), Wu Bin (Chairperson of the Music Education Branch of the CSE), Liu Donghui (Secretary-General of the Aesthetics Education Professional Commission of the CSE), Jin Qiu (Secretary-General of the Dance Education Professional Commission of THE CSE), and Cong Yan (Secretary-General of SCRBCSE) headed for Hangzhou to meet with Chu Ziyu (Party Secretary of Zhejiang Conservatory of Music) and Wang Junchang (Deputy Party Secretary and Executive Vice President of Zhejiang Conservatory of Music) for the symposium on building the Aesthetics Education Research Center of the CSE. During the symposium, they discussed the nature, missions, supporting conditions, and cooperation mechanism of the centers, confirmed the basic cooperation framework, and divided the work for building the center.
On the afternoon of November 27, the Seventh Session of the Seventh Standing Council of THE CSE was held at the Ninth Meeting Room on the ground floor of Xiamen International Exhibition Center Hotel. On the meeting, Yang Nianlu, Secretary-General of the CSE, reported on the major work and revenue and expenditure of the CSE in 2015 as well as key points of 2016 work plans, and gave some advice on the standing council; Ma Jianhua, Vice Secretary-General, reported on the top design work of branches; Liu Tangjiang, Vice President of the CSE, introduced the Future Educationalists Magazine. Besides, the resignations of Zheng Shushan and Yin Zhongmin from the position of Vice President of the CSE, and the theme and organizers of the 29th Annual Academic Conference in 2016 were also discussed.
On November 28 and 29, the 28th Annual Academic Conference with the theme of “Core Competences and Suitable Education” was held in Xiamen. Along with the conference, 11 parallel forums and ten mini forums were held at the same time, with the topics including “Providing Suitable Education,” “International View and Local Practice,” “Scientific Assessing Methods of Core Competences,” “Exploration into the New Professional Teacher Development Mechanism under the Background of Running School by Groups,” “From Knowledge-based to Quality-based,” and “Course Construction Based on Core Competences.” During the conference, two insightful interviews were also conducted, namely “Dialogue with Education Experts” and “Guest Interviews.”
On November 29, the 13th Education Salon, jointly sponsored by the CSE and Guangming Daily, was held in the Strait Conference Room of Xiamen International Conference Center. The theme of the salon is “How to Transform Core Competences to Student Competences.”
On November 30, the 2015 International Conference on Educational Innovation &Awarding Ceremony of Wenhui Award for Asia-Pacific Educational Innovation was held in Xiamen, Fujian Province. The conference was sponsored by UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Education in Asia and the Pacific, Secretariat of National Commission of the People’s Republic of China for UNESCO, and the CSE, and organized by the Basic Education International Exchange and Research Center and Comparative Education Branch of the CSE. With the theme of “Innovation for Skills Development for the Future,” the 2015 Wenhui Award received a total of 76 applications, among which two were accredited with the Wenhui Award and three with the Honorable Commendation.
On the morning of December 5, the CSE launched a charity program called “Development Promotion Project for Rural Educators” in Beijing. A total of 30 trainees from rural preschools, primary and middle schools in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Sichuan Province, Chongqing, Guizhou Province, Yunnan Province, Tibet Autonomous Region, Gansu Province, Qinghai Province, and Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region participated in the launching ceremony. As the first batch of trainees, they received training for one week in Beijing.
On December 11 and 12, sponsored by the CSE and organized by Chinese Language Teaching in Primary School Professional Commission of the CSE, the 14th Cross-Strait, Hong Kong and Macao Communication of Chinese Language Teaching in Primary Schools was held in Chongqing.
From December 11 to 13, the International Smart Education Summit Forum &2015 International Smart Educational IT Solutions Expo was held at China National Convention Center in Beijing. With the theme of “Dealing with the Challenges of the Era of Internet Plus,” the forum was sponsored by the CSE and jointly organized by Journal of Chinese Society of Education, YASN International Exhibition Co., Ltd., and Beijing National News Bureau Newspaper Information Consulting Center. Meanwhile, approximately 30 different activities were held, including smart education interactive salons, industry forums, authoritative election, interactive experiences and achievement display. Over 200 media from various industries attended the forum. The exhibition covers an area of30,000 m2, involving general education, higher education, and vocational education, and containing 13 types of products. More than 400 enterprises, together with publishing groups and digital publishing units from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the West, were actively involved in the exhibition. Over 36,000 people also participated in the exhibition, including principals, teachers, and procurement staff of local governments and education departments in China.
On December 16, the Work Experience Exchange Conference of Secretary-Generals of the CSE Branches was held at Qinglan Plaza in Beijing.
On December 19, the Inaugural Meeting of the First Council of Rural Education Branch of the CSE & 13th Five-Year Plan Seminar on China’s Rural Education Development Strategy was held in Beijing.
